Steaksmith: A Sleek New Steakhouse Graces Nusa Dua

A new dining destination opens inside the five-star Renaissance Bali Nusa Dua Resort, with premium meats and fire at the heart of its menu and offerings. Inside a sleek, purpose-built venue, the aptly named Steaksmith welcomes diners for a sophisticated steak experience.

With its striking, standalone building nestled beside the resort’s gardens, Steaksmith feels very much like its own destination inside the resort’s grounds. Designed by one of Indonesia’s most renowned architects, Andra Matin, the restaurant’s façade certainly reflects the architect’s signature style: a blend of modernism and vernacular Indonesian architecture, with clean, minimalist lines and a strong emphasis on natural materials.

Rooting the restaurant to Bali, interior design firm P49Deesign introduce Steaksmith with wooden and wicker-finished furnishings and carved wooden pillars. This blend of modern-industrial and natural gives Steaksmith its distinct atmosphere, sure to impress guests. The restaurant offers semi-outdoor seating, for those wanting to enjoy the tropical breeze, as well an intimate, air-conditioned indoor space.

As a steakhouse, its no surprise that the impressive Santa Maria-style grills are put on display in the open-kitchen, where guests can watch as their meats sizzle over the natural charcoal and wood fires. Here, the finest imported cuts are prepared with home-made rubs and bastings, before being grilled and served.

The curated menu of meats at Steaksmith includes a range of cuts, highlights being the Pure Barley-Fed Black Angus (MB 5+) Striploin, Carrara Wagyu (MB 7-8) Rib Eye, Opal Wagyu Picanha (MB 8-9) and an all-time favourite, the 1.5kg, 200 days grain-fed Stockyard Tomahawk.

But the grills aren’t only reserved for steaks, delicious Mulwarra Lamb Chops with Ras El Hanout spices, Australian Lamb Shank, Line Caught Fish are all put to the flame and flavoured by the woods and charcoal. Not to be missed are the smoked delicacies, especially the ribs, with the Tokusen Wagyu Beef Short Ribs with a traditional black pepper, garlic and brown pepper sugar rub; or the Smithfield US Pork BBQ Back Ribs. All these mains come with a selection of sides, like charred broccoli, potato millefeuille and  baked sweet potato on ashes; and sauces like blue cheese, foie gras and sweet red wine or smoked chimichurri.

Starters are just as enticing and shouldn’t be overlooked. Highlights include the delicate Angus Beef Tartare, served on bone marrow with chips; “Pata Negra” Iberico Ham; and Grilled Oysters with ‘cowboy’ butter cream. Classic desserts from a Key Lime Pie, Traditional NY Style Cheesecake, Flan and Poached Pears with Red Wine make leaving without a sweet finish impossible! Steaksmith’s refined wine list and curated premium signature cocktails make for the perfect compliment to dinner.

Open only for dinner, this steakhouse brings a bespoke new take on a grill-focused restaurant, set to be a destination in Nusa Dua.
