Imagine waking up to a breathtaking sunrise and a panorama of the sparkling ocean from your window. That’s the unique allure of Rumah Pohon Nusa Penida, a mesmerizing treehouse that encapsulates the untouched charm of Nusa Penida, Bali. Rumah Pohon Nusa Penida sits majestically on a hilltop, overlooking the alluring Thousand Island viewpoint.
How to get to Rumah Pohon
Rumah Pohon is part of the Thousand Island viewpoint area costing only 10,000 rupiahs to park and enter, which is less than $1 USD (may have increased). The best part about this treehouse is that it is actually a house and you can rent it out for pretty cheap considering how popular this spot has become and how insane the view is.
If you would love to wake up in this treehouse and watch the sunrise from the balcony with views over the coastline you can book a night or two in the treehouse. I’ll share the details on how to do that later in the blog post. Personally, I would suggest that one night is enough. There is a small restaurant at the top of the cliff near the treehouse so you can buy your meals but other than that you need to bring everything with you.

Visiting Rumah Pohon from Nusa Penida
Rumah Pohon is on the south-eastern Coast of Nusa Penida. The island is quite big and it can take over an hour to cruise from one side to another depending on where your accommodation is located. The roads are improving very quickly throughout Nusa Penida as tourist traffic increases but if you are a novice scooter driver this is gonna be an interesting journey for you! If you aren’t confident in driving, you can rent a car on Nusa Penida with private driver, which is a good option to visit multiple spots safely in a day with a group of friends.
Booking a night in the Rumah Pohon (Treehouse)
You can book a night in the treehouse via Agoda and both are the same price. The owner told me it is booked out months in advance, especially during high season so you may want to book well before you travel to Nusa Penida.

Where is the Nusa Penida Treehouse (Rumah Pohon)
The Nusa Penida Treehouse (Rumah Pohon) is located within the Thousand Island viewpoint. The viewpoint is one of the attractions on the island and looks along the beautiful coast of Nusa Penida. It’s not far from the famous Atuh Beach and it could be a good idea to combine these two spots into one day!
The island is quite big and it can take over an hour to cruise from one side to another depending on where your accommodation is located. The roads are improving very quickly throughout Nusa Penida as tourist traffic increases but if you are a novice scooter driver this is gonna be an interesting journey for you!
A motorbike costs a little bit more than on the Bali mainland. We got ours for 70,000 rupiahs per day with a full tank of gas. It wasn’t deal of the year but don’t expect to haggle down to 40,000 rupiahs as you might manage on the streets of Canggu or Kuta.
Nusa Penida Treehouse (Rumah Pohon)
Firstly, you might be wondering what Rumah Pohon means and it actually just means treehouse. This location is sometimes referred to as Rumah Pohon and sometimes as the Nusa Penida Treehouse so I thought I would reference both.
Thousand Island viewpoint or Pulau Seribu is one of my favorite spots on Nusa Penida. The parking and entrance was 10,000 rupiah per person, which is less than $1 USD. There is a small warung with snacks, drinks and simple hot meals at the top of the cliff. You won’t need to pack a big lunch as the hike is only short but it can get steamy so bring a water bottle.

There are several viewpoints that have had fences and structures added to them for the benefit of tourists. There are huge drop-offs here so the fences are to keep tourists safe! To get to the first viewpoint you need to climb down the steep stairway for about 10 minutes. Once we reached this first viewpoint we were pretty awestruck.
The view is incredible! We could see a small little empty beach sitting at the bottom of the cliff. It was paradise.
We continued on to the second viewpoint and then to the Instagram famous Tree House. There was nobody inside but the door was locked. We took a few photos here and debated whether or not we would stay out here. We all concluded it would be worth it for the feeling of enjoying the sunrise on the balcony of the treehouse!
The final viewpoints are a shrine and there is a little hut offering some much-needed shade. The day we went we were almost melting so this was a good reprieve. If you are lucky enough to stay at the Nusa Penida Treehouse enjoy your stay but if not definitely still come and adventure at Thousand Island (Pulau Seribu) Viewpoint!

How to get to the Nusa Islands
There are three main options to get to Nusa Penida depending on your budget and how many logistics you want to manage. Here are the three options with the cheapest first:
- Book your ticket: Sanur (Bali) to Nusa Lembongan – Book a regular ferry that leaves from Sanur to Nusa Penida on the reliable website 12go. You then need to moped or taxi across to Nusa Penida via another ferry/boat.
- Book a fast boat: Sanur (Bali) to Nusa Penida – This option is great as you go direct from Bali to Penida without having to stop in Lembongan. This option is only slightly more expensive than stopping in Lembongan. This is my favorite option of the three and can be booked on Klook.
- Book a fast boat with hotel-pick up: Sanur (Bali) to Nusa Penida – This option includes a fast boat from Sanur (Bali) to Nusa Penida but also includes pick up from your hotel in Bali in a van. This option from GetYourGuide is a bit more expensive but takes all the hassle out of the transit from Bali to Nusa Penida.
